At the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the two institutions issued a joint statement stressing the importance of a resilient global recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic continues to destabilize the health system, affect production, reduce jobs and incomes, especially for the poor segment of the population. The crisis generated by COVID-19 threatens the lives and living standards of the most vulnerable, contributing to rising poverty, exacerbating inequality and deteriorating long-term economic growth prospects. That is why it is important that the response to the crisis and the recovery approach are based on collaboration and comprehensive action plans.
