According to the UNCTAD 2020 Report on the Least Developed Countries (Least Developed Countries Report 2020), efforts to rebuild the economies of these states (LDS) will fail if their production facilities are not improved. UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi said the development of LSD production facilities is needed so that they can complete a process of structural transformation, reduce exposure to external shocks and become more resilient. He added that the development of LDS production facilities has been too slow for them to withstand a shock such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
