The crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has tragically reminded us that nature can be ruthless. Only human ingenuity and goodwill can improve and protect the living standards of billions of people. Today, much of this ingenuity is involved in an epoch-making revolution: the transformation of an analogous world into one that is increasingly digitalized. The effects are already widespread: this is the first pandemic in which a new habitat, the infosphere, has helped overcome the dangers posed by the biosphere. We have been living our “onlife” life (both online and offline) for some time, and the pandemic has made the “onlife” experience an irreversible reality.
